Orchid.pic was derived from a 640x480x8 (256 color) GIF image. I
downloaded the original from the Hall Of Fame library in the Graphics
Corner Forum, converted it to RGB with GIFtoTMP and TMPtoRGB (a rather
slooooow process), and then rendered it into 640x480x4 (16 colors)--using
Burkes dithering and a slight gamma boost--with The Art Department from
ASDG. Looks bloody marvelous for a 16-color image!
I can't say too many good things about TAD; since getting it I've been
virtually unable to tear myself away from my Amiga. TAD is simply sublime.
It represents a major evolutionary improvement in Amiga graphics
manipulation capability and rendering quality. Check it out at your
dealer. If you choose to purchase TAD, make sure you've got lots of Fast
RAM (ASDG recommends at least 4 megs, but I've been squeaking by so far
with 2) as the software is very memory-intensive. (Can't wait to get TAD's
speedy GIF loader!)
You can view Orchid.pic with any decent IFF viewer, such as SuperView.
Don't forget to hit the TAB key to turn off that infernal color cycling
<grimace> when using SuperView from the Workbench (presumably via the
supplied icon).
Out of consideration for the creator and uploader of the GIF version of
Orchid.pic, I include below his original file description:
"Of over 100 photos I have taken of flowers this is my personal
favorite. It is one single beautiful orchid. It is for Val Zen, a
very special person, who helped me learn a new medium of
communication.
"Original photograph by M. Brown."
